WiFi QR Code Generator

Our WiFi QR code generator makes a code that opens a small Wi-Fi page: guests see your network name and can join or copy the password in one tap, with no spelling out passwords. It's part of Pro, so when the password or network name changes, you update the page and keep the printed code.

How to make a QR code for Wi-Fi

  1. 1

    Enter your network

Type the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears in your Wi-Fi list, including capitals and spaces, then add the password.

  2. 2

    Choose the security type

Pick WPA/WPA2 for almost any modern router, WEP only for very old equipment, or open for a network with no password.

  3. 3

    Design, subscribe and download

Style the code, subscribe to Pro, and download a print-ready file for the wall, table or welcome book.

  4. 4

    Test it

Scan the printed code with a phone that hasn't joined the network before, or forget the network on your phone first, to be sure it connects.

How a hosted Wi-Fi QR code works

A basic Wi-Fi QR code packs the network name and password into the pattern itself, so a new password means a new code and a reprint. QR Simple's Wi-Fi codes work differently: the code holds a short qr-simple.com link to a small page we host for you. Guests scan it, see your network name, and get a one-tap way to join the network or copy the password.

Because the details live on that page rather than in the printed pattern, you can change the password or network name from your dashboard and every sign, table card and welcome book keeps working. You also see how many times the code is scanned, and when.

Which security type should I pick?

The security type you enter must match your network. If you're not sure, check your router's settings or the label on the router:

  • WPA/WPA2: used by almost every home and business router made in the last decade. Pick this if in doubt.
  • WEP: an old and insecure standard. Choose it only if your router really uses it, and consider upgrading.
  • Open: no password. Guests simply join the network.

Keep your network safe

Anyone who scans your Wi-Fi code can see the network name and get the password. That's the point, but it means you should only display it where you'd happily tell people the password. For businesses and rentals, a separate guest network is a good idea: guests get online, and your own computers and devices stay on a network they can't reach.

Because the page is hosted, QR Simple stores the network details you enter so it can show them to people who scan. For an extra step, you can add optional password protection to the Wi-Fi page itself, so only people you give that password to can see the details.

Change the password without reprinting

Changing the guest password on a schedule is good practice, and with a hosted Wi-Fi page it no longer means replacing every printed copy. Update the password in your dashboard, and the same code shows the new one from the next scan, including copies in welcome books and on the back of doors.

Pro is CA$15US$10 a month or CA$120US$80 a year with no trial. You can cancel online any time, you get a full refund within 15 days of your first payment and of each annual renewal, and if Pro ever ends, printed codes keep working behind a one-tap “Continue” screen.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a QR code for my Wi-Fi?

Enter your network name, choose the security type and add the password, then subscribe to Pro and download the code. Guests who scan it get a page with your network name and a one-tap way to join or copy the password.

Is the WiFi QR code generator free?

No. Wi-Fi codes are part of Pro, at CA$15US$10 a month or CA$120US$80 a year, because we host the Wi-Fi page and let you change it later. There's no trial, and you get a full refund within 15 days of your first payment. The free generator still makes static codes for links, email, SMS, WhatsApp, text and map locations.

Do iPhones and Android phones work with it?

Yes. The phone's built-in camera opens the Wi-Fi page with no app needed, and from there guests can join the network or copy the password.

What if I change my Wi-Fi password?

Update it in your dashboard. The printed code stays the same and shows the new password from the next scan, so there's nothing to reprint.

Is my Wi-Fi password safe?

Anyone who scans the code can get the password, so only display it where guests are welcome, ideally for a separate guest network. We store the details to show them on your page, and you can add an optional password to the page so only people you share it with can see them.

Why won't my Wi-Fi QR code connect?

Check that the network name and password on your Wi-Fi page match your router exactly, including capitals, and that the security type is right. Then test with a phone that hasn't joined the network before.

What happens to my Wi-Fi code if I cancel Pro?

Printed codes keep working. People see a one-tap “Continue” screen first, and editing and analytics pause until you resubscribe.
